IntroductionBased in Edinburgh, I perform copy editing (including on-screen work, employing the track changes facility in Word) and proofreading of single- and multi-author books (frequently work by non-native writers of English), articles and law reports. I have been freelance since 2000, specialising in academic texts in social science and humanities, and this has included some work on dissertations.
My work over the last eight years has been almost exclusively in copy editing. It has also included proofreading corporate literature for a local design company, and work on website content for a major publisher. I have previous in-house experience in editing and proofreading newsletters, at the One World Shop, Edinburgh, and at a local mental health project. My training includes On-screen Editing (SfEP) and Copy-editing (Scottish Publishers Association) (most recent training in June 2012, with Publishing Scotland), and I am currently working on a certificate in copy editing with the Publishing Training Centre. I have a BA in English/Development Studies from Stirling University and the Open University. I am an ordinary member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, a network member of Publishing Scotland and I am involved with the Glasgow Editors' Network. |
